Alvaro Pierri

Alvaro Pierri was born in Montevideo, Uruguay to a musical family and was taught from an early age music and guitar.  He completed his studies at the Uruguayan National Institute of Musicology and under Abel Carlevaro and Guido Santorsola.  He participated in international guitar competitions where he won numerous first prizes including the gold medal and first prize at the 18th Paris International Guitar Competition, Radio France.

Alvaro Pierri now teaches at the University of Quebec in Montreal, at McGill University and at Mozarteum in Salzburg, as well as conducting masterclasses and participating in festivals across the world.

Professor Pierri pursues a very active career as a soloist and with orchestras and chamber groups playing troughout Europe, Japan and North and South America.  He has given world premiers of works by composers such as Brouwer, Santorsola, Carlevaro, Rougier, Gonzales and others, many of these specially composed for him.  As a chamber musician he has performed with numerous artists such as Astor Piazzolla, felow Uruguayan guitarist Eduardo Fernandez and Leo Brouwer.

His discrography includes 12 CDs and his recordings have been nominated five times for the coveted FELIX award for the best classical CD of the year, a prize which he has won twice.

Professor Pierri will conduct a guitar workshop plus masterclasses to take place at TOM LEE MUSIC THeatre 1, Cameron Lane, Tsim Sha Tsui, as follows:

Attendance to this Workshop-Masterclasses will be free of charge for those completing attendance to all 9 sessions of the workshop but enrollment is necessary and a deposit  of HK500 will be required, sum which will be refunded in cash to each person attending the full workshop. Those wishing to attend only some of the sessions of the workshop can do so having enrolled and paid this deposit, but the Chopin Society will not refund the money, in those cases the HK500 will be kept by the Chopin Society of HK. These regulations will not apply to those traveling from outside Hong Kong, no deposit will be required taking into account the expenses involved in traveling and accommodation.
