Kenneth Kwan, PhD

International Jury MemberThe Buffalo News called his playing “sensitive” and Legato commented on a performance of his which received “an ovation that clearly reflected the audience’s delight,” Dr Kenneth Kwan is currently Guest Associate Professor at the Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou, China, where he established the classical guitar program in 2006. Kwan was Guest Professor and Director of Center for International Exchange at Kunming Arts Academy (Yunnan, China), in addition to having taught the classical guitar at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has lectured in Hong Kong and abroad, including Beijing (Central Conservatory), Shanghai (Shanghai Spring/Shanghai Conservatory), Taipei (Taipei-Canada Arts Festival), Macau (Macau Academy of Music), etc, etc. Locally Kwan has appeared on TVB and RTHK Radio 4 on numerous occasions, both as performers and presenters. He has also worked extensively with the LCSD promoting the guitar with various programs and lecture series, for school children as well as the general public. His writings have appeared in journals in China and overseas, including the Journal of the Central Conservatory of Music, Guitar and Lute Magazine (Hawaii) and Soundboard (Guitar Foundation of America). Books he authored and edited have been published by the Chinese University of Hong Kong as well as in the UK. He has also been on jury panels in international guitar competitions in China, Hong Kong, Thailand and the US.
